Troubleshooting Camera Monitor Screen Turns Black After 30 Seconds With PWM Filter Installed

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/16/2024

Question:

I have a 2021 Chevy 3500 which obviously has the pwm. I purchased the pwm 12v filter and installed it but I’m still having the same issue. I get full video from the camera for about 30 seconds before the screen goes black. If I unplug the monitor and plug it back in I get an additional 30 seconds or so. Is the filter just not working or is something wrong with my monitor?

Hi Kelly; there isn't much to the filter so as long as you wired the # VGR64VR correctly with the red wire connecting to power I expect it to work. With that 30 second interval I would check the actual camera system. I'm not sure which one you have, but there are several that have a time out/sleep function for the monitor. Go ahead and look in your manual to see if the monitor is timing out which would explain this behavior. You can also check to make sure it is getting full 12V power.

Hey Kelly, what did you find when you checked your camera system and power connection after installing the PWM filter? Knowing whether the monitor was timing out or losing power could really help others troubleshooting the same issue.
