Recommended Electric Trailer Jack For A 10,000 GVWR Travel Trailer

I would like to replace the manual jack on my travel trailer with an electric jack. The travel trailer is 6,600 lb dry weight and 10,000 lb GVWR. The tongue weight is 900 lb per the manufacturer’s specs. I tow it with a Chevy 2500 and am leaning towards a 5,000 lb jack for safe measure, but was curious if a 3,500 lb jack would suffice. To correctly hook up the weight distribution hitch I need to lift the suspension of the tow vehicle to get the bars aligned for the WDH.

Hey Nick,
Since your tongue weight is going to sit around 1,000lbs an electric tongue jack rated for 3,500lbs would be acceptable. A jack rated for 5,000lbs would lift the trailer a bit easier/quicker since it's designed for much heavier loads but you'll end up spending more than you need to.
Since electric trailer jacks have components that do eventually wear down I recommend going with the Electric Jack w/ Footplate # EJ-3520-BBX to ensure that you can still get replacement parts. There's a lot of jacks on the market that are pretty expensive and offer zero replacement parts so you're stuck replacing the entire jack over a $2 part. I also highly recommend covering your jack head with a cover like the # UF38-944020. Preventing moisture from getting into the head will keep your jack working longer.
