Replacement Brake Assemblies for 2011 Springdale Travel Trailer

Question:
I have a 2011 Springdale 18foot travel trailer with Dexter 1701570 axles, SN 133019817 with 10 x 1x1/2inch brakes 023-473-00 RHS, 023-472-00 LHS. I am interested in rebuilding/upgrading the brakes on these axles. I have seen conflicting information regarding upgrading these axles to 10 x 2 1/4. Some information I read indicate that these axles produced after 1999 could be retrofitted with the 10 x 2 1/4inch brakes. I reached out to Dexter, but did not get a response. Can you clarify whether this upgrade/retrofit is possible? Sincerely, Greg

Hey Greg, I would recommend you go with the part # K23-472-473-00 which is the exact correct size and capacity your trailer needs. If you go with a wider assembly (if it would fit) you don't really gain better braking performance and instead you get harder to regulate trailer braking. It would be really hard to find the correct brake setting that doesn't feel too strong or too weak.
