1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Today we're gonna take a look at this Lionshead, 14 inch by five inch glossy black Eagle aluminum trailer wheel with the five on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this is an aluminum wheel. It is durable, lightweight, and rust proof. And we mention it's the Eagle series, which you can see is a split five spoke design with a glossy black finish. And then on the edge of the spokes you can see they put a nice shiny machine edge on the spokes and even a little bit on the lip.
Now they do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front of the wheel to protect it from scuffs and scratches. Now, one of the nice features I like on this wheel is they use these steel inserts that are pressed into the lug nut wells, and that is designed to help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer hub. Basically what happens is when you put this up on the trailer hub, put your lug nuts on, torque your lug nuts down, those inserts will prevent those holes from wearing down or elongating over time, so it helps eliminate the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts. If you notice the valve stem right over here is included. It's pre-installed into the wheel.
Now the center cap is not included. If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website. You do wanna get a center cap that'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole. 'Cause when you install it, it'll go in through this hole. The diameter on this pilot hole is 3.19 inches.
Now this wheel does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications and the SAE J1204 standards. A few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the diameter and then we're gonna measure the width. Now, when you measure the diameter, it's always measured inside to inside. So just to show you, if we take a tape measure and if we go inside to inside, there's your 14 inch diameter. Now if we do the width, same way, it's bead seat to bead seat.
So inside to inside is right at five inches wide. Now this wheel does have a bolt pattern of five on 4 1/2 inches. And if you wanna measure that bolt pattern, the way you would do it on a wheel with an odd number of lugs, like in this case five, you just pick one of the holes, let's say this one, and then you're gonna measure across to either one of these holes right across from it. But the key is you wanna measure from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of the hole you measure to. On this, it'll measure 4 1/2 inches. So that's gonna tell you it's a five lug, 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 2,200 pounds. But that should do it for a look at this Lionshead, 14 inch by five inch glossy black Eagle aluminum trailer wheel with the five on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
