Troubleshooting Demco Hijacker Autoslide Yoke Hitting Hard During Operation

Updated 12/31/2025 | Published 10/13/2024

Question:

How much movement should be in the yoke? When I stop or accelerate the yoke bangs hard in each direction. Took a long time to figure out what was making the noise. I looked at diagram and didn’t see any shims, only a bushing and bolt. Is this condition normal?

Hey Mark, thanks for reaching out!

What's likely going on is that you either need to adjust the capture plates to better "hug" your pin box, or that front bolt needs to be adjusted.

I reached out to my contact at Demco who verified what you're experiencing isn't how the Hijacker is supposed to operate, but if you double check the things I referenced above it should take care of your issues.

Hey Mark, did adjusting the capture plates or front bolt stop the yoke from banging when you start and stop? Knowing what fixed it could really help others fine-tuning their Demco Hijacker hitches.

@JamesonC I have not had RV connected since then so I’ll probably be trying the fix in early spring. RV is away for the winter! Thanks for reaching out, I will definitely let you know what happens.
