Can I use a Furrion Chill Cube 18k AC Unit With an Existing Duo Therm Air Distribution Box

Updated 08/21/2025 | Published 08/13/2025

Question:

I need to replace 2 Dometic Duo therm 620215-301 and was wondering if I could in a Furrion Chill cube 18k and use the old Dometic ADB, or would I need to use a new ADB. I Don’t mind having to place new thermostats in, the old ones only work intermittently. Also would I need to install a start capacitor in these as well? Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the great question, David!

The short answer is, no. Now, the why is because, as of this year, 2025, all new RV AC units are required to use the new R32 refrigerant per EPA regulations. Looking at the positive, the new refrigerant is way more efficient than the old R410a so you will feel a difference with the new 18k Chill Cube.

There are two different versions that will help beat the summer heat depending on what kind of set up you have in the camper. If you have some duct work you want to use part # FR49TD (black) or # FR99TD (white). Now, if your camper does NOT have duct work, you'll want to snag part # FR27TD (black) or # FR59TD (white). All of these are 18k BTU units.

What camper do you have?

Thanks for the reply, I have a 1994 Monaco signature series diesel pusher, and it does have duct work, so the part numbers for the ducted unit it was suggested I use, does that include an air handler so I can use my ducting or would I have to redo my ducting?

@David You wont have to redo any of your ducting, you can keep it as is. I did some research about your air handler, it was a new term to me, and the newer air distribution boxes pretty much have that built into it. So you would be replacing it but that replacement would be the new air distribution box the Furrion kit would come with. I also realized yesterday when I was heading home that I didn't answer your question about if you needed a start capacitor. The answer to that one would be no, as the Chill Cube has one built in. Have you been making other upgrades to the camper or kept it to the 90s vibe in the camper?
