Question:
Hi I’m looking for a trailer hitch for the back of my 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT. I would also need someone to install it. We are moving from Morris County NJ to Florida. We are looking to attach a Uhaul. I’m not sure what size of a U-Haul but we want to make sure that the hitch that gets installed cat handle the load. We have never used a hitch before so we need it installed and a tutorial on how to hook it up. The only hitch I’m aware of is at Subaru. I’m looking for alternatives. Can you recommend a place to go that will install and provide some kind of tutorial on how to attach a UHaul? I live in Denville NJ. Would really appreciate any help you can provide Thank you

Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out to us - I'd be more than happy to help you out!
According to the online manual for your 2023 Subaru Outback Wagon, your vehicle can tow up to a 3,500 lb trailer as long as it has brakes - which means you need to go with the 6x12 trailer from U-Haul since it's the only one that comes with surge brakes on it.
To tow this trailer you'll need a hitch, wiring, and a ball mount. Here are the parts I recommend for that:
- etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e25TR
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467
- etrailer Ball Mount Kit # e38NR
I really like the etrailer hitch because it has a hidden crosstube (which looks better and gives you better ground clearance) plus it has a matte black finish that protects it better than a standard glossy black finish. The wiring is the most reliable on the market, and the ball mount kit gives you a slight rise while also coming with the hitch ball already installed so you'll be good to go right away!
To get the hitch installed by a professional you'll want to check out our installer locater that I'm linking below. When you click on the link you just need to input your zip code and hit search to see what companies we do business with in your area that can do hitch installs!
I'm also linking our install videos for these parts so you can get an idea of what's all entailed with the installations if you're curious.

Hey Scott, how did things go with the hitch setup on your Outback for your move to Florida? Were you able to get it installed and go through the tutorial on hooking up the U-Haul? Your update could make it easier for others new to towing to get started.
