Replacement Axle and Disc Brakes for 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2970RL With 4,400 lb Axle

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/12/2024

Question:

Hi Robin, Thank you. I did not see the reply until now. Ok let's switch gears then. Do you sell a larger axle with disc brakes and pump assembly with hoses that will bolt on to my travel trailer? If so, please send the part numbers for pricing for everything. Thanks

Hello again Terry; the next size up is a 5,200 lb axle which is commonly used to replace a 4,400 lb like the one you have now. Your current hub face measurement (length) is 86-1/2" so you can use the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 86-1/2" Long - 5,200 lbs # 8327816 as a replacement.

The spring center measurement is 71-1/2" so you will have to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS300 to match your current 68-1/2" measurement. You will also need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8 for installation.

With the new axle you will be able to use the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - Maxx Coating - 6,000 lbs # DE28YR. These have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern so you can use your existing wheels. The actuator # DE47SR and hydraulic brake lines # DE57SR are the same as the previous answer so that will complete the setup.

Hey Terry, how did the upgrade to the 5,200‑lb Dexter axle and DeeMaxx disc brake setup work out on your travel trailer? Your results could really help others thinking about a similar swap.
