Can A Higher Capacity Trailer Hitch Receiver Be Installed On 2021 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 RV?

Updated 09/12/2024 | Published 09/06/2024

Question:

I have a 2021 401 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 Motorhome built on a Ford F53 Chassis and need to upgrade to a bigger trailer hitch. It has a Buyers Product 3026673 on it rated at 5000lbs but I need at least 6000lb towing capacity. The frame is 34 outside to outside, the one I have is 33 1/4 flange to flange and fits inside the frame rails. the bolt holes are 31 3/4 center to center. Front to back the bolt holes are at 2,4 and 7 3/4. Can you please help me find the correct trailer hitch? I have been trying for days to find the correct one with no results. Thank you!

Hey Aubrey, you'll actually need to go with a universal trailer hitch receiver since there aren't custom-made receivers for your motorhome. If it were a standard cab and chassis that would be a different story though. That said, you'll want to make sure you're aware that simply replacing the receiver with a higher rated receiver is likely not going to increase your towing capacity. You'll need to check to see what your motorhome is rated for in regard to towing capacity and stay below that number. It looks like yours is rated for 5k towing capacity, but you can check for a label on your motorhome or check owner's manual (or contact the dealer).

If you do go the route of installing a different receiver, you can use the following depending on how much drop you need:

- 3" Drop From Frame: Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets # 15901

- 10.865" Drop From Frame: Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets # 15902

- 18" Drop From Frame: Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets # C99CR
