Can Blue Ox RF Controller for Patriot Brake System be Hardwired to 12V Power
Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 08/27/2024 >
Question:
Can I run a Blue Ox BX88393 remote RF controller with the power cable wired directly into a 12VDC circuit on the tow vehicle? In other words, cut the cigarette lighter plug off, and wire directly into the vehicle 12 volt system? I would assume this would work if the power into the BX88393 is 12 volts.

Hey Tim, thanks for reaching out!
Yes, you can wire the power wire from the RF Controller # BLU66CR directly to a power source. It's important to note that those cigarette style plugs typically have a fuse in them so you'll want to bust that open to see what size fuse Blue Ox uses, and then install a fuse with the same rating into your wiring setup.

Hey Tim, how did wiring the Blue Ox RF controller directly to your 12V circuit turn out? Did matching the fuse rating from the original plug work smoothly for you? Your update could make it easier for others setting up the same controller.
