Front And Rear Mounted Trailer Hitches Needed For A 1991 Born Free Motorhome On A Ford E-350 Chassis

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/16/2024

Question:

Ok, Ive got an oldie. 1991 E350 26foot Born Free motor home. Id want to put a class 3 hitch on the rear for car towing. There has been extensions welded onto the frame to support the rear of the motor home. There are no tanks black, gray or other in between the frame rails. Please advise on the measurement that well need to fit the proper hitch on the rear of this coach. Id like to install a 2inch receiver hitch on the front as well to carry the spare tire or bikes. A Draw Tight 65001 does not work because of the sway arm, would love some help with this as well. Thanx for the tec. support. Dale Plummer

Hey Dale,

There unfortunately aren't any trailer hitches confirmed to fit so you would need to go with a weld-on, adjustable-fit trailer hitch and measure from the frame down to the bottom of the fascia to determine how much of a drop you need to clear it. This is going to be the case for both the front and rear hitch. We offer the following drop sizes:

Draw-Tite
7" Drop # 41990-07
16" Drop # 41990-16

Curt
3" Drop # 15901
9" Drop # C47CR
10.865" Drop # 15902
11-1/2" Drop # 15903
18" Drop # C99CR

Hey Dale, how did your measurements turn out for the front and rear weld-on hitches on your Born Free motor home? Your results could really help others working with older RV frames and extensions. Sharing what worked might guide someone tackling a similar setup.
