Troubleshooting Lack Of Difference Between Fan Speeds With An RV Air Conditioner System

Updated 08/21/2024 | Published 08/15/2024

Question:

How much increase/decrease of air flow does the three speed switch cause? The original switch provides almost no perceptible difference? Thanks

Hey Tom,

There should be a noticeable difference between the Hi/Med/Low fan settings for your system. Do you have ducts or does your system just blow straight down through the vents in the air distribution box? Do you have a Furrion AC system? If the rooftop unit isn't increasing in speed as you turn up the fan speed control then that could indicate an issue either with the rooftop unit or the controller.

Kevin thanks for the response. This is a brand new Furrion HE that just blows all the air straight down. We really want to be able to direct the air. E-trailer has always provide good products at a fair price so I am going to order one and we will ferret out the fan issue.

@Kevin If you have ducts in the space between the air distribution box and rooftop unit and the vents on the air distribution box are open it would split the air flow and could seem like you're not getting a real difference from the different fan speeds. You can increase the air flow pressure by closing certain vents either on the air distribution box or duct vent. If that's not an option then going with a different air distribution box that has closeable vents or switching to a higher BTU rooftop unit can help, but obviously wouldn't be super cost friendly. If you feel the fan speeds are really out of the norm then I would close all duct vents and force all air through the air distribution box to check if there's a noticeable difference. If not, that's when I'd look at the power to ensure the system's getting enough voltage to properly operate. If it is and the fan speeds still just don't seem right that's when I'd get Furrion involved and see if they can warranty out a replacement.
