How to Determine Correct Replacement Spindle

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/14/2024

Question:

Help me find the axle I need. I have a 1998 Astro boat, I believe 19 ft. Blew out the left side bearing. Spindle probably shot. Only think I see on trailer says GVWR /GAWR 3,000 lbs. Spring center measurement is 70 inches, and Hubface of 90.25 inches but that is hard to get accurate. Brake plate face to face is 83.25 and I am measuring 6.5 from brake plate face to hub face. Hubs are 5-4.5inch. Would prefer a new axle, but if that wont work, what spindle do I need? Have pics of hub if needed.

Hello David,

I'm sorry we don't have an axle of that size, and while it's not possible based on that info to tell you offhand what spindle you need, you can find the right one with some measurements. It'll take a digital caliper that measures to the thousandth of an inch and you'll need to measure your spindle in the same spots as the image below.

For example, if you measured B for the grease seal and got 1.719", C for the inner bearing and got 1.378", and D for the outer bearing and got 1.063" you could use the #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange # TRU77FR.

I have added a link below to our selection of spindles for you, or if you let me know the measurements I can see if we have one that matches what you get.

Hey David, were you able to take those spindle measurements with a caliper to see what matches your trailer? Once you have those numbers, I can help confirm if the #84 E-Z Lube Spindle or another option fits. Let me know what you find so we can narrow it down.
