Saddle Style Kayak Carrier that Can be Used on Load Bars of Truxedo Elevate Ladder Rack

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/06/2024

Question:

Will the clamp on the Yakima sweet roll expand enough to fit on the bar of the “elevate” truck rack?

Hey Lisa, we have a solution but the load bars of the Elevate ladder racks are too large for any of the clamp on style kayak carriers to fit on them. Instead you would need a carrier setup that was designed to fit the top channels on loadbars like the Rhino Rack Nautic 581 part # RR581. This comes with hardware that attaches the rack to the top channels of the bars you have so it will fit and work great.

Hey Lisa, how did the Rhino-Rack Nautic 581 work out with your Elevate truck rack? Your update could make it easier for the next person trying to mount a kayak carrier on those larger load bars.

@JamesonC Rhino nautical 581 works okay, but is impossible to get secured tightly enough to prevent slipping. As a result, the saddles slip apart and the boat drops onto the bars. I currently have the pairs of saddles tied together with rope to prevent them from slipping apart.

@Lisa That's a bummer to hear. Are you using the T-slot mount hardware or the clamps that go around the bars?
