Does not stay in place on rectangular racks. Maybe it works better on different racks. Does not stay in place no matter how hard I tighten it.

Had same setup on old suv which was sold with rack. So I ordered same for new Honda Pilot. This Rack is especially useful to safely load and unload heavier kayaks ( like Hobie) even by ladies and smaller people like teenagers.
wonderful product: I am over 70 and have no problem singlehandedly rolling my 100 pound plus hobie tandem kayak up on top my truck and into the saddles.
Recently upgraded to a larger Kayak and found that the Yakima Sweet Roll I was using had too much resistance making it difficult to load. The Handroll definitely makes it easier.
You need a smooth hull otherwise any tracking grooved hulls will swallow the wheel and render it useless

You mentioned that any grooves on the hull will swallow the wheel and I wanted to see if you could explain in more detail what you mean.

The “grooves” are really tracking channels. The give Nucanoe kayaks handling, but they will eat the rollers.

I appreciate the additional information. I recommend the BigCatch system from Yakima, part # Y04091, which is a 4-saddle based system verses a roller. If your roof rack has top channels you can use adapter kit part # Y04092 for a cleaner install and if you have round bars you would need part # Y04093.
I’ve always had great service with etrailer. I opted for 3 day shipping this time and it showed up in 2 days. The Yakima rollers are the perfect addition to my m416 trailer for loading and hauling my kayak.
These Handrolls were a replacement for ones about 30 years old which worked great but the rubber/plastic was degraded by the sun and the degraded plastic would get on the kayaks. The wheels of the new HandRolls do not turn well, even with an overabundance of Silicon lubricant sprayed inside. They worked very poorly in loading my kayaks. They will soon join their brethren in the dumpster.
I have two vintage 1980s 17 ft. ocean kayaks that I transport on a GMC Yukon. Yakima DeckHands mounted on my vehicle forward roof rack and because of the length of my kayaks Yakima HandRollers mounted to a Yakima LongArm and LongArm extension fitted to my vehicle trailer hitch receiver. These are excellent products that allow me to safely transport both boats side by side. The HandRollers allow me to single handed load and unload. Front of the boats on the HandRollers attached to the LongArm, push from the stern of the kayak and they are easily in place on the top of my Yukon ( a pretty tall SUV). I do recommend these products. They work very well. Much easier than hefting a nearly 60 lb kayak on top to a tall vehicle by hand.

I put the rollers on a strong arm loader it
Works great, the loader fits a 2in receiver it pulls backwards at a 45 degree angle and it is springs loaded you put the kayak onto it then go to the back of the kayak push forward and the kayak is at a 45 degree angle in the air then you push it's on the rollers and stop when you get where you want it let it down gently a d that's it ,take it off in reverse thanks to the wheels it makes it very easy

It has been working out just fine,I also use it for my float tube.
These are amazing for loading a kayak high up on a truck rack. You drop the front of the kayak on the wheels and then roll it on up. Dont forget to lock the wheels when securing the kayak.

1 year later and I would still rate this as the best option to carry your kayaks!

I am kind of disappointed in this item. I thought the wheels would tilt down back and make it easier to roll kayak up onto my yakima rack easier. They dont orientate enough to make it easier to. The people in the RV camp loved how they looked. Kayak rode well on them when loaded on yakima rack...I wouldnt buy them again. Better suited for racks on top of cars or SUVs IMHO.
