Parts Needed For Flat Towing A 2012 Honda CR-V

Updated 02/04/2026 | Published 07/29/2024

Question:

I would like to get a price for a complete towing package for a 2012 Honda CR V to tow behind a 2016 MB 3500 Sprinter. I like the airforce brake system for the Honda. I will be doing the install myself.

I can definitely help with that, Bob. I will start with a list of parts, then include a few important notes. Here are the parts I recommend for towing your 2012 Honda CR-V:

- etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # e98955

- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # e34ZR

- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

- Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Wireless Monitor - Proportional # DM86VR

It is important to note that fuses will need to be pulled during towing, and you will need to refer to your owners manual to verify the correct fuse. We offer fuse bypasses that can be used for this purpose. If your owner's manual says to only pull the #19 ACC radio fuse, use part # RM76511; if it states to pull the #19 ACC radio fuse and the #20 ACC key lock fuse, use part # RM76512.

Also, you may need a drop hitch to compensate for any height differences between the base plate arms and the hitch on your RV. A difference of more than 3" will require a drop hitch. For that I recommend part # BLU28XR.

You can see our current pricing for each part below. Scroll down a bit more and you will find links to install videos for each part which I think you will find most helpful. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions for me.

Hey Bob, how did your towing setup for the Honda CR-V turn out with the parts I listed? Were the install videos helpful as you worked through everything yourself? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar setup.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, I did the project with a master mechanic and we went by the instructions that came in the package. With his ability it was pretty simple. I think if you were a rookie you would struggle a bit but it certainly can be done. Everything went on the way it should. No leftover parts. It just takes time.

@BobK Thanks for the update, Bob. Having a master mechanic at your disposal always makes things go more smoothly I'm sure. Glad to hear y'all were able to get it done and that everything went according to plan. I love it when a plan comes together!
