Recommended Suspension Enhancement For Dog Trailer That Rides Rough

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/23/2024

Question:

I have a 1600 pound to 2000 pound dog trailer that has a two and three eights 3500 pound axle. I would like to add some type of suspension to smooth out the ride considerably for the dogs. The trailer is all aluminum frame with a steel flat bar, bolted to the frame where the leaf springs attach. What type of suspension would you recommend and would be best suited for dirt roads?

Hey Tyler,

For a 3,500lb axle SuperSprings International has you covered with their SumoSprings Helper Spring line, you'll just need to see if the axle is above or below the leaf springs. If the axle is below the leaf springs you have an overslung suspension and need part # TSS-107-40. If the axle is above the leaf springs then you have an underslung suspension and need part # TSS-106-40 instead.

These jounce springs will provide a night and day difference for your trailer's ride quality and help keep the dogs comfortable on while traveling.

Hey Tyler, how did the ride feel after adding the SumoSprings to your dog trailer? Your results could really help others trying to smooth out their trailers for dirt road travel.
