Troubleshooting OptiTronics LED Tail Lights Wig Wagging

Question:
We have a 2022 Micro Minnie FLX 2108DS and the LED tail lights are not working correctly. I have checked all the truck and trailer wiring up to the junction box mounted on the frame, all of that is correct. The problem is when the running lights are on and you apply the brakes with either right or left turn signal the tail lights wig wag back and forth. The running lights work, the brake lights work, the backup lights work and the turn signals work individually but not all together. I have verified all the grounding points are clean and solid. The lights are Optotronics, Fusion LED Combination Tail Light - Submersible - 4 Function - 12 Diodes - Red and Clear Lens? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated Thank you.

Stuart, since you’ve already confirmed the truck and trailer wiring through the junction box and verified the grounds, the fact that the running lights, brake lights, backup lights, and turn signals all work individually points us toward the tail light wiring or the lights themselves. The wig wagging when the running lights are on and you apply the brakes with a turn signal suggests the brake and turn signal circuits may be interacting at the lights. I’d start by checking the wiring connections directly behind each OptiTronics Fusion LED tail light, especially where the running light, brake/turn, and ground wires connect. If those connections are solid and the wires are not damaged or crossed, I would suspect an issue with one of the LED assemblies.
One helpful test would be to disconnect one tail light at a time and see if the remaining light still wig wags when the running lights and brake/turn signal are applied. That can help narrow down whether one of the lights is causing the issue. This actually happened to a co-worker and when we removed the taillights and made sure the wiring was fully seated into the back of the light, they worked again.

Heather, I followed your suggestion of removing one of the lights and the one still connected worked correctly with the running lights on, brakes applied, and turn signal for that light operating. I then swapped sides and the other light work correctly in the same configuration. When I reconnected both lights the same wig wag problem returned and i got some very erratic voltage readings. Voltage readings were stable with the individual lights connected. I re-verified all ground connections have continuity and are clean/tight. I have ordered a new set of lights as the old ones are now suspect of having a defect of some sort.
