Question:

We have a 2024 27MAV Grand Design travel trailer. Was looking to upgrade the suspension. What are my best options under $1000? Thanks

Hi James!

I was able to find one whole picture of the underside of a 2024 Grand Design Momentum MAV 27MAV (insert a sigh here), but no actual axle info. However, with the fully loaded weight being right at 11,000 pounds, you most likely have 5,200 to 7,000 pound axles and the picture I found showed the axle under the leaf springs (overslung).

With that information, I recommend going with the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 5K to 8K - Overslung # SS26MV. The SumoSprings Helper Springs don't break the bank, are easy to install, and will help even the ride out a bit. But, I do need to note that these are jounces and could result in some bouncing when on rougher roads.

If you want something to really help with making the ride better, I would go with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axle # RM-2460. This is a more difficult install and is more expensive than the SumoSprings, but it is better as well. Everyone I have recommended these to has been very happy with them. I will confidently say this is the best trailer suspension upgrade kit for under $1,000.

Out of curiosity, it looks like you are towing with a '22 F250? Are you getting any sagging when towing this?

Is that better than using a system like the cre3000? I was under the impression that the springs have very little give and that the cre or Dexter system would extend that. And then maybe add shocks?

@James I prefer the MORryde CRE3000 over the Dexter equalizers as they have more cushion and movement. Due to that, they are definitely an upgrade over standard equalizers and people do really like them. One thing to note though, these are rubber bumpers and can still cause some bouncing, though less than the SumoSprings jounces. The Roadmaster shocks get rid of the bouncing, and is still the best upgrade in my opinion. However, doing the shocks and MORryde CRE3000 would still keep you under that $1,000 budget. They are also pretty inexpensive and are not a bad place to start at all. Yo will need to do some measuring to figure out which you will need, but it isn't overly difficult. You will need the following: A) Distance between outer shackle bolt holes (center on center) B) Distance between hanger bolt hole and outer shackle bolt hole (center on center) C) Height from shackle bolt hole to hanger bolt hole As an example, the # MR27ZR measures A) 8" B) 4" C) 3-1/2". If you can get me those measurements, I can see what we have available for you.
