Question:
I recently installed the curt C11286 Class 1 1-1/4inch Trailer Hitch on my 2017 Subaru Crosstrack and just received the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack SH12B along with the Curt stabilizing strap 18050. With two bikes loaded up 37lbs 44-45inch wheelbase and 34lbs 46-47inch wheelbase the best place to hook the strap seemed to be the middle of the outer 2nd bike platform of the rack. While the strap was tight and seemed to help a little there was still some decent bouncing and swaying when go over bumps, turns and rough road. The pictures and videos of the strap seem to have it hooking on something higher up on the rack but the Kuat Shepra 2.0 doesnt have anything other than the arm holding the bike wheel. Is there a preferred method to using the strap with this bike rack? Would a second strap for either side of the outside platform be recommended?

Hi Doug,
First, thanks for the purchases, it is certainly appreciated. As for your query, the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 isn't really meant to completely stop bounce and sway on racks like your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 # SH12B, it's meant to take some of the stress off the hitch.
That said, I can understand if you just want added peace of mind and more stability for your very nice bike rack. You definitely don't want to put a strap around one of the arms holding the bike wheel, so what I would do is add another # 18050 to the outside platform. Two of these spread apart should remove the majority of the movement of the rack.

Hey Doug, how did things go after adding the second Curt stabilizing strap to your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack? Did it cut down the bounce and sway when driving over rough roads? Your update could make it easier for others using the same setup.
