Recommended Flat Tow Braking System for a Diesel Pusher w/out Having to Install an Air Tank

Published 01/08/2026

Question:

I am preparing my 2015 Kia Soul as a tow vehicle behind my 2915 Dutch Star diesel pusher. I need to buy a supplemental braking system accordingly. Although the coach does have an air chuck near its trailer hitch, from what I see it does not have a ping tank installed. So, it seems to me that the Curt RVI Shadow braking system would be easier to install in my Kia than the Air Force One system since I would also have to modify the coach for the AF1. Just wondering what your suggestions are for the Curt System vs the AF1 system knowing my situation?

Hey Charles, welcome back! I completely agree with your reasoning and the Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 Flat Tow Brake System item # RVI94FR is the newest and most popular braking system on the market right now. It's compatible with every type of motorhome braking system as well so it's super versatile if you decide to get a new motorhome or sell your Kia to another flat tow'er.

The Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 item # RVI94FR is a proportional braking system that slows or stops your Kia with the same force as your Dutch Star. It has an inertia sensor built it that measures the amount of braking it provides. You can fine tune the settings using the included dash mounted display.

Another nice perk of the Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 item # RVI94FR is the included charge line. This is going to keep your Kia's battery topped off on your trips. You'll be able to monitor the voltage from the dash display. It also includes everything you need hardware wise to get installed, along with the required breakaway kit.

As far as comparison on installation, the vehicle side install of the Curt RVi Series item # RVI94FR is going to be quite a bit easier than the Demco Air Force One item # DM26VR and there's no modifications required on your motorhome. The Bullseye dash monitor is wireless and plugs into a USB or cigarette lighter port.

It looks like you've already picked up the rest of the parts you need for flat towing. If you have any additional questions, go ahead and click on the box that says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

@CharlesH Thank you sir! Happy to hear those videos were so helpful! We've all been pretty excited about the new Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 item # RVI94FR. We haven't had a chance to install it on too many vehicles but I have linked the installation videos we've done below. They'll give you a pretty good walk through on what to expect.
