Chevy Equinox Trailer Hitches - Is There A Difference In Bumper Clearance With Different Hitches?
Updated 06/18/2024 | Published 06/10/2024 >
Question:
I’m interested to know if all trailer hitches extend out from the vehicle the exact same distance. The hatchback on my Chevy equinox bumps my powered trailer Jack ever so slightly when it goes up and down. If the trailer hitch would extend out from my car, an extra inch or two, my hatchback would clear without bumping the trailer Jack.

Hello David, good question. There can be some variation in how far the hitch extends from the back of the vehicle. Depending on what year your Equinox was made, and what hitch you have on there now, there may be an option that will work for you.
For example, the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13591 for the 2005-2017 Chevy Equinox sits 4-1/2" behind the bumper. Then we have the Draw-Tite hitch # 76028 which sits only 3-1/2" behind the bumper. So making this switch would probably fix your issue. If you can let me know what year your Equinox was made, as well as what brand and model of hitch you have now, I am happy to look into it and see if we have an option for you.

I have a factory installed hitch. It came preinstalled when the car was purchased new off the lot. I’m hoping not to have to change the hitch but just get it a new insert that’s an inch or two longer. my car is 2018 Equinox Premier with tow package
