Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2023 Mazda CX-30
Updated 06/07/2024 | Published 06/01/2024 >
Question:
Im looking for a hitch for a 2023 Mazda CX-30. I will be towing a jet ski no hills to speak of and nothing else. The trailer and jet ski are no more than 800 lbs and the I can easily lift the end... Id guess that the tongue weight is less than 70 lbs. I dont want to take a chance of having to modify the molding bumper, replace the muffler hangers or bend the heat shield to reduce contact that makes noise as some people online have suggested may have to be done. I have been using a smaller 2008 Mazda 3 to tow this jet ski and trailer with no problem. It seems like the Curt C49CR 1.15inch is plenty of hitch for this purpose. What do you think? Also, I saw in a different etrailer video older CX-30 and an EcoHitch, one guy used an existing hole on the side of the frame covered with a plug to fish the bolt in. My 2023 has something in that same spot but it looks a bit different not the same rubber plug. Do you know if it is a plug, covering a hole that could be used for installation?

Hey James, so we have the Curt hitch part # C49CR that is a confirmed fit for your 2023 Mazda CX-30 that would be a solid option for towing a Jet Ski trailer like you mentioned. It is the option that requires the least amount of modification to the vehicle and is priced the best as well. This does not use any rubber plug covered holes to install either.

I would prefer that it uses the rubber plugged hole if it’s available on the 2023… that way a drill won’t have to be used (rust). I tried to widen a hole once… too hard without the professional tools. So I will have to hire someone to do the install… and hope they paint the widened hole (and let the paint dry). That’s why I am hoping that the plugged hole can be used.
