Question:

I have a 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness with a dealer-installed 2inch trailer hitch. I have a Yakima EXO SwingBase. While trying to install the SwingBase, I noticed the hitch bolt will not go all the way through the tongue and receiver because the tongue wont slide all the way back due to the lip of the gas tank being in the way the holes dont line up and are about 1/2 inch off. What are my options for getting the SwingBase tongue to slide far enough into the receiver so that I can install the hitch bolt? Im afraid an extender will have the same issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hey Becky, I'd just suggest using a hitch extender like the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension # Y69VR. This will push your Yakima EXO SwingBase Swing Away Hitch Extender # Y34VR out an additional 7 1/4" so it should clear the lip on your gas tanks.

If you'd like, you can measure the distance needed to clear the lip and let me know what that and I'd be happy to find an extender we know will work.
