How Does The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Install In A 2021 Ford Ranger

Updated 06/05/2024 | Published 05/30/2024

Question:

How does this plug into a 2021 Ford Ranger? I have heard from a couple people that the inside door trim and headliner need to come out to connect at the third eye brake light wire harness inside the cab. The only controller I have ever installed was on my F-150 and it just plugged in right next to the steering column under the dash. I have no interest pulling trim panels apart inside my truck.

Hey John,

Since there isn't a factory brake controller port to plug into you would need the universal splice-in wire harness with the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. The wire harness will need to be spliced in the following manner:

Red - cold side of the brake light switch
Blue - brake output pin on 7-way
Black - 12v power (battery) with inline fuse # 331-CBK30-EB
White - ground

The brake light switch wire you're looking for is coming off of the brake pedal and would be purple/white. You would not need to remove trim to run a wire to the third brake light. You would be running 10ga wire # 10-1-1 from the brake controller to the 7-way and battery. The control knob will need to be mounted into the dash so you will need to remove some of the dash panels to get it installed.
