Does Installing Redarc Brake Controller Require Running Wire to Third Brake Light

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/21/2025

Question:

Some redarc install videos on the 2023 Ford Rangers with Automatic Emergency Braking AEB include connecting a wire to the cab mounted third brake light so that the AEB also brakes the trailer if needed. Admittedly, these seem to be mostly Australian based videos. Is any special wiring needed for the redarc brake controller for vehicles with AEB?

Hey Dave, that doesn't seem to be an requirement for vehicles made here in the US so you would not need to worry about that. In Australia there must be a law that if your apply the e-brake the trailer brakes must be locked too whereas over here that's not the case. For more context the Redarc brand originated in Australia so there's a lot of Australian content out there from them.

Hey Dave, did the information about the Redarc brake controller help with your setup on the Ford Ranger? I'm asking because it could help others who are navigating similar installations.
