1990 Chevy C1500 Truck Frame Spacing to Fit Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver

Updated 06/11/2024 | Published 05/24/2024

Question:

The description says 34” frame spacing. Is that outside to outside, centerline, or inside? I have a 1990 C1500 Silverado 2WD long bed single cab.

Hey Zack, thanks for reaching out!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14082 has the bolt holes measuring 31-1/4" spacing from center to center. Your truck frame needs to measure 34" outside to outside for this to fit.

My 1990 Chevy C1500 has a frame that measures 36-7/8 outside to outside. I see a lot mention 34” frame. Do I have an oddball and can you make a recommendation for a class 4 or 5?

@ZackB In your case I recommend going with a universal hitch like the Buyers Products Class 5 # 3371801050 which has adjustable brackets that weld onto the crosstube along with the vehicle frame. So, the installation is a little different but it fits a wider variety of applications. I unfortunately don't have any insight into the width of your truck, but it sounds like it isn't the standard.

Reached out directly to Curt. Their tech support said "Overall width - 37.23" / height - 7.81" Center 2 Center - 35.00" towards the front of the vehicle / 34.44" center / 34.00 closest to the rear of the vehicle." Ordered on from eTrailer and will try it out.
