Question:
I am curious how much dynamic weight your sturdiest crossbars will handle. I want to put a 165 lb rooftop tent on my Jeep, using the 11 inch supports I have the skytop and needs clearance

Hi Bruce,
So technically the most weight a roof rack for your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the Sky One-Touch Top can carry is 165 lbs. The rack is only as good as its weakest point, which is the legs in the case of nearly every rack. For example, the Thule rack that fits your Wrangler uses the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711520 and 11" Rapid Gutter Feet # TH93ZR.
The crossbars are rated for 220 lbs but the feet have a 165 lb capacity. That said, many rooftop tent manufacturers require a roof rack setup that affixes only to raised side rails, flush side rails, or fixed mounting points. You couldn't use a Thule or Yakima rooftop tent with the rain gutter feet, but there are also tent manufacturers out there who say it's okay so it really just depends on what they say.

Thanks for the info. I have been using a rain-gutter rack that I modified to be tall enough for my skytop, and been on multiple epic adventures with it. The metal plate supports was on the flimsier grade (1/8 inch, I think) and bent. I'll give the Thule or RhinoRack a try!
