An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

  • Best 2024 Ram 3500 Timbren Suspension Kit for a Slide-In Camper
Hey Jason, thanks for reaching out! The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR is the best Timbren kit for your 2024 Ram 3500 because the other Timbren kit, part # TDR3500CA, is designed for standard use while the T94VR is the severe service kit that works better for heavier applications like salt spreaders and slide-in campers. Are you planning on having the camper in most of the time, or is it a once every so often kind of thing?

  • How Big of a Gap Should the Timbren Severe Service Have? Which Ones are Right for My Truck?
Hello Hans, I am a little confused because you have a 2012 Ford F-250 in our fitguide, but the drtt3500d which is our part # T94VR is designed for 2010-2013 Ram 2500 and 2010-2025 Ram 3500; the drtt3500e our part # TDRTT3500E is designed for 2014-2025 Ram 2500. When these severe service Timbrens are installed you can have a gap of 1/2 to 1 1/2" but as you can see in the picture I attached of an install we did here there is 0 gap. If your truck really is a 2012 Ford F-250 then you will...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2022 Ram 3500 With RealLite 1806 Truck Camper
Hey Mick! Thank you for providing that information. Since you're going offroad with the truck camper I recommend the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR. This is designed for constant loads like a slide-in camper and has a really high capacity to prevent that suspension sag. The two springs work independently so it will also cut down on that squirrelly factor by reducing body roll while absorbing bumps/shocks. My go to for in-bed camper setups is typically air bags like the...

  • Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement For a 2023 Ram 3500 Dually Long Bed
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR3500CA is the standard rating Timbren springs for your 2023 Ram 3500 Dually with an 8' bed. Do note these will not fit if you have the factory air suspension option. We also have the Severe Service Kit # T94VR which are rated for trucks which always carry heavy loads. So if you are only using the truck with towing heavy loads or installing a service bed these are the best option.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For A 2008 Ram 3500 With A 2,900 Lb Truck Bed Camper
Great question. For a 2900 lb truck bed camper I definitely recommend going with air bags. Air bags give you adjustability and allow you to fine tune your suspension. This is especially advantageous when you have a camper in the bed since you may have to compensate for a slightly uneven load. For your 2008 Ram 3500 I recommend the Air lift ultimate # AL88297. This is 5,000 lb capacity kit. The air bags feature internal jounce springs which add stability, and also act as a failsafe if you...

For your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with a slide-in truck camper, the best suspension enhancement is from Timbren, and is their heavy-duty kit, which is the following part number: - Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR The # T94VR is made specifically for consistent heavy loads like a camper due to its strength and 8,000 lb capacity, which is more than any other option. • Correct Timbren Suspension Enhancement for a 2019 Ram 3500
The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System (SES) for your 2019 Ram 3500 pickup should be part # TDR3500CA because the other option, part # T94VR, is for Severe Service vehicles like tow trucks. This kit has an 8,600 lb capacity and doesn't require any drilling for the installation, but please note that it will not fit if you have the factory Air Suspension system. Another thing to remember is that this will not increase the weight capacity of your pickup as it is designed to...

Per Timbren The Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR comes with a 1 inch spacer, so with the included spacer the suspension system will be 7-1/4 inches, without using the spacer it is 6-1/4 inches. • Comparing Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems for a 2019 Ram 3500
The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2019 Ram 3500 is part # TDR3500CA. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # T94VR is for trucks with a constant heavy load like if you had a truck bed camper or service bed instead of standard bed. These springs are engaged constantly and not something you would really want on a daily driver. The capacity is a bit confusing I'll admit but rest assure, part # TDR3500CA is what you want for general use and towing.

  • Comparing Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for 2016 Ram 3500 Towing 5th Wheel
I understand the confusion based on the difference in capacity. The key is the difference in design. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR is designated as a Severe Service kit so the springs are always engaged. Although the capacity is slightly lower at 8,000 lbs, the design is intended for a constant heavy load like a salt spreader or in-bed camper. Based on the frequency of your towing you want the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR3500CA. These have...

  • How Do I Minimize Body Roll On 2020 Ram 3500 While Towing 5th Wheel
Yes, the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, # T94VR will enhance your current suspension reducing the body roll you are currently experiencing. With the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. This is a great option for the price. I suggest you consider the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar, # RM73FR....

  • Recommended Timbren Suspension Enhancement For 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 With Salt Spreader
Based on the fact that you are concerned about the ride quality, and you keep the truck unloaded in the summer, I would recommend the # TDR3500CA over the severe duty # T94VR. The # TDR3500CA still has a high capacity at 8,600 lbs for your salt spreader but does not have the same Severe Service kit designation and design as the # T94VR. It is likely you will still see some difference compared to before the installation of the jounce-style springs, but it will not have the same impact as...

  • Does the Pin Weight of a 5th Wheel Trailer Count Towards the Payload Capacity
You're correct that the pin weight of your trailer is going to take away from the payload capacity, since that weight is going to be over or slightly forward of the rear axle of your truck and also correct that it is typically around 18- 20% of the GVWR of the trailer. The payload also gives you 150-lbs that is not considered (the average male driver) so it's technically 150-lbs more than what it says. If you have a 10000-lb trailer, the tongue weight should be around 1800-2000-lbs (you...

  • What is the Difference Between my Payload/Cargo Capacity and Towing Capacity
There seems to be a bit of confusion here, which I'll try to clear up. There are 3 main capacities related to the weight your vehicle can handle that you generally want to know; your payload (cargo) capacity and towing capacity are going to be two different ratings, and your truck will also have a combined weight rating (GCWR) which is the maximum combined weight of the truck, payload (cargo) and trailer. For your 2011 Ram 3500 dually diesel that is towing your 48-foot car hauler I suggest the Timbren kit # TDR3500CA. This kit will work with (or without) overload springs and its 8600-lb load rating means it will have the correct capacity to stiffen your rear suspension without creating new problems.
