Can I Install Both a Flat Towing Wiring Harness and a 4-Way Connector on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK?

Updated 10/28/2024 | Published 08/02/2023

Question:

I have a 2018 Wrangler JK with the Hopkins HM56200 towed vehicle installed. My jeep did not have a factory trailer tow package and I want to add that. Can I use this harness in concert with the Hopkins to get trailer wiring in this jeep?

Yes, so long as you don't try to use both of them at the same time. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C55124 will work as a 4-flat connector and plugs into your Jeep's existing wiring. If you try to flat tow your 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with say a bike rack on the back or a cargo carrier that has lights on it then the 4-flat connector will not work, only the Hopkins item # HM56200.

The Curt item # C55124 is confirmed to fit the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK's without the towing package. I have linked an installation video below.

I recommend using the No-Drill Mount Bracket item # 18136 and the item # C42CR to secure the 4-way connector to your hitch. This will put it in an easy to reach spot and prevent the risk of it falling onto the road.

I have a 2017 wrangler I tow behind my motorhome. I have the HM56200 wiring harness installed. I know my flat plug that was installed with the towing package won't work when connected to the MH. If I put the C55124 between the HM56200 and the driver side tail light, will this new flat plug drive another set of lights for my bike racks or do I to just put T splices in the wiring harness. Thanks for you great support.

@JoeC No, I am sorry the Curt item # C55124 won't work like that. The Hopkins item # HM56200 takes over and controls all your lighting functions when your flat towing. You can either use one or the other.
