Question:

How does the replacement clamp NOT slide out of the awning bracket? The replacement clamp has a nut that fastens to original awning thru a slide rail. How does this system make sure the clamp doesnt slide around in the bracket?

Expert Reply:

To install the replacement clamp assembly # 8880737 and bracket # 8880736 on the Yakima SlimShady Awning # Y36VR, there are two t-bolts that are inserted into the upper channel of each side of the SlimShady rail. You would then place the clamp onto the bolts and thread a lock washer and nut on each bolt. At first you only need to tighten by hand and once installed, open the clamp completely.

This allows you to slide the clamps along the awning to properly position them for installation. Then, once you measure and find their appropriate position, you will use a wrench to fully tighten the 4 bolts to the specs listed in the attached diagram, as per the installation instructions. This is what ensures the clamps stay put.

In case you're wondering, 5 Nm is equal to 3.69 ft-lbs of torque. The +.50/-.00 basically means you can go .50 Nm over but nothing under the 5 Nm.
