09 Malibu LTZ 3.6L and looking for a 2 hitch. I saw in the comment/review section there are 2 different sizes for this and saw that 1 is taller and longer that hits the bumper while the other is shorter that does not hit the bumper. And what is the difference between the class l and ll hitch as im ONLY ever hmgoing to use as a tow strap spot to pull wife out during winter and to haul a cooler basket for camping but that basket is a 2 mount

The only trailer hitch receiver fit for your 2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ is a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver so there is not one with a 2" receiver. So for your Malibu, what you will need is the following:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12051
Like I said this is a Class II, but to answer your question the difference between Class I and Class II is a Class I generally has a stopper to prevent the hitch from using anything but Class I accessories. As far as using your cooler basket with a 2" shank for camping, you can still use it with Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch # e43YR.
You will also need Pin & Clip # F-4, and just keep in mind adapters reduce the tongue weight of the # C12051 to 150 lbs, so that would be the max your basket and its contents could weigh.
