Recommended Leaf Springs and Hangers for a Custom Trailer w/ a 2,000 lbs Axle

Updated 04/18/2023 | Published 04/09/2023

Question:

I recently ordered an axle and hubs from you E82gr, 60 inch, 2000 lb. I would like to order the correct u-bolt set for it as well as the appropriate leaf springs and hangers. I noticed you sell a four-leaf and a three-leaf spring for the 2000 lb axle. I have 15 inch tires and I am reinforcing my trailer harbor freight 1750 weight load capacity. I will probably be carrying close to the 2,000 lb limit. Ive built a small square trailer on the 4x8 trailer. And have installed a motorcycle carrier on the front tongue. Which set of springs do you think would be the best? I also see that the hangers you have come in different sizes. What would you recommend? Even with the motorcycle on the tongue, I am well within the tongue weight limit.

Welcome back! The correct U-Bolt kit for mounting your 2,000 lbs trailer axle is item # APUBR-10.

The right set of leaf springs for your trailer is typically determined by capacity and where your spring hangers are mounted. Since you are customizing your trailer you're not bound by this limitation. Since your trailer's axles going to max out at 2,000 lbs, I recommend the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles item # SP-169275. These 3 leaf springs are 20-3/8" long. They will flex and absorb road shock and in the process not offer a stiff uncomfortable ride. I do not recommend going with a 4-leaf set up. This will add some stiffness to your suspension that isn't necessary.

For hangers you will want the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs item # APS1. This kit comes with all the necessary bolts and shackles to get your leaf springs set up.

I have linked a couple of installation and review videos below so you can check out these parts.
