In regards to the installation of the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller part # RED44FR, you don't need to disconnect the battery beforehand. That said, it wouldn't hurt anything to do so and it's not a bad idea. I've installed many of these units and never disconnected the battery beforehand and there have been no issues as a result of this.
