The trailer wiring harness I recommend for a 2023 Subaru Ascent is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56040 which offers a direct plug-in-play fit for an easy install and it comes with the most common type of trailer connector, a four way flat. Please note, the four way flat is used on small and medium sized trailer but if you have a larger trailer with electric brakes then you'll need a few other items as well, a seven way and trailer brake controller. I recommend the 4 to 7 with 4-Way Adapter part # ETBC7L and Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 for this as they are also very easy to install without any splicing required.

The above is everything you'll need to hook up the lights on a trailer no matter its configuration.
