Recommended Hitch Extension For Trailer Towing With a 2019 Ford F-250 Carrying a Truck Camper

Published 09/14/2022

Question:

I would like to tow a small 12’ - 14’ dual axle utility trailer to my new fixer upper property in AZ with my 2019 F250 w/Lance 820 in the bed. However, my 820 Lance overhangs the rear end by about 2 feet so I need an adequate extension to achieve the tow. The utility trailer weighs about 3000 lbs. and tongue weight is about 200 lbs. when loaded. Will this extension work for application w/my Lance 820 in the bed? In addition, I have a 22’ walk around fishing boat that weighs 4400 lbs. and aluminum trailer is about 1000 lbs. w/tongue weight at 400lbs. w/total towels no weight at about 5800 lbs. wet. Can I achieve this tow with this extension and while the 820 Lance in the back? Note: I installed the 5k Firestone ride rite bags in the rear end which help for weight distribution and capacity. I have frame mount torklift turnbuckle brackets front and rear and the fast gun turnbuckles that I purchased through etrailer. BTW - thanks etrailer for your help on brackets and fast gun turnbuckle questions I had and my purchase I am extremely satisfied. Please see Truck/Camper specs below: •2019 F250 lariat crew cab 6.2 liter gas 4x4 6.75’ box -GVWR for F250 10,000 lbs -GCWR F250 19,500 lbs -3.73 axle ratio -max weight carrying 12,500 lbs •2000 Lance 820 camper -dry 2750 lbs -wet 2950 lbs I haul grey/black empty and pack extremely light Note: at minimum I would like to tow the utility trailer while keeping costs low so I can get to work on my property asap and if I need to upgrade further to tow my boat I can purchase additional items at a later time. Your thoughts? Thanks

I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer # C45048 as it will fit better with the 2-1/2" factory receiver on your 2019 Ford F-250. The Hitch Box Extension and Reducer # RP45292 is designed to be used with the Reese Titan 2-1/2" receivers. As the shape of this receiver can alter slightly with sharper edges it does not always fit a stock receiver properly. The Curt # C45048 at the 24" length is rated for a trailer up to 6,000lbs with a tongue weight up to 600lbs. This will allow you to use it with both your utility trailer at 3,000lbs and a boat trailer at 5,800lbs.

You will need a Wiring Harness Extension # TLW6024 to connect to your truck and give you a connection that your trailer connector will be able to reach.
