Question:
I would like to add a hitch, 7 -pin wiring harness, and brake controller to my 2020 Dodge Durango Citadel for a small camper with trailer brakes. I would like the hitch and plug receiver to be concealed under the removable tab in the bumper. I think this is the hitch I want: Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV- 2inch - DT38MR. What wiring harness, 7-pin receiver, and brake controller do I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT38MR will give you a receiver that mounts behind the removable tab on your bumper for your 2020 Dodge Durango. Do be sure to check your spare tire size as this receiver will only allow you to keep your spare tire underneath your Durango if it is on a 18" or smaller spare tire.
For the wiring you will first need a T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118617 for connecting to your tail lights. This will then connect to the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you the 7-way connector. The kit includes the wiring and components needed to get the 7-way functioning and install a brake controller. I recommend using the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. The small dial controller does not take up a lot of room on your dash and is proportional for improved driver usability. Rather than having to manually adjust the controller for light and hard braking the Redarc has an inertia sensor that will automatically adjust braking pressure.
You will want to use a weight distribution hitch for towing your travel trailer. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System is the hitch I recommend using. Depending on the weight of your trailer you will need to select the correct hitch.
GVWR up to 10,000lbs, tongue weight 600-1,000lbs # EQ37100ET
GVWR up to 6,000lbs, tongue weight 200-600lbs # EQ37060ET
You will also need a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to install the included hitch ball for each hitch. The 10,000lb kit comes with a 2-5/16" Ball # EQ91-00-6100 while the 6,000lb kit includes a 2" Ball # EQ91-00-6080.
