Fifth Wheel Towing Using 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed w/ Ramboxes

Updated 10/11/2013 | Published 10/09/2013

Question:

Good morning, Im checking to see if it possible to attach a 39ft Montana 5th wheel to my Ram 2500 short bed with ramboxes? I know it can tow the weight but Im concerned about the short bed and of course the ramboxes. I believe the Fifth Wheel Head: RP30083 and Installation Rails: RP56011-53 along with a Sidewinder with Rotating Turret will work. But, I just have to make sure. thank you

Reese does not recommend fifth wheel towing with Rambox-equipped Ram trucks. The Rambox makes the bed too narrow, so there is a real danger that the sides of the pin box will impact the bed sides during turns.

There have been reports that using a Sidewinder will produce enough clearance that this danger is removed, but Reese hasn't tested it and therefore cannot recommend it. If you decide to try it, you'll be doing so at your own risk.

The # RP56011-53 install kit would work fine, but instead of the sliding hitch, you'll want to use the stationary version, part # RP30928.
