Will EcoHitch Interfere With Kick Sensor and Allow for Larger Spare on 2021 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I have a 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum. All of the other hitches say that installation may affect the lift gate sensor operation and/or will not allow under car spare tire storage for a tire larger than 18”. Does this item have either one of these issues?

Expert Reply:

The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH35VR may interfere with the Hands-free Liftgate sensor like all of the other hitches. Typically this means you will need to place your foot on either side of the receiver tube in order to activate the sensor. According to Torklift, this hitch will allow for an 18" or smaller spare. The only exception is the factory 20" low profile spare tire.

If you would rather have a different hitch based on this information, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e75ZR. Like the EcoHitch, this has a 2" receiver, a hidden cross tube, and a 5,000 lb capacity. The hitch also features a matte black powder coat finish. This provides more of an OEM look and also does a better job hiding dirt and scratches when compared to a glossy finish.
