Parts Needed To Flat Tow a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta Using a Demco Aluminator Tow Bar

I recently purchased a motorhome that came with a Demco model 9511007 Alluminator tow bar. Id like to use my 2002 VW Jetta 5-speed manual as a flat tow behind it. Do you stock any base plates that are compatible with the Jetta car and Demco tow bar?

We certainly do have an option that is going to work for you. First, though, please consult the vehicle owners manual to make sure you can flat tow it and for any special requirements and procedures.

For base plates you can use Roadmaster # 521227-3. You would then need an adapter, # RM-033, which is compatible with the Demco Aluminator tow bar, and quick disconnects, # RM-201.

You will also need safety cables. If you do not already have a set of cables use # RM-643. The coiled design will help keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting I recommend a simple and easy to install magnetic kit, # RM-2120. With this lighting kit there is no cutting into the vehicle wiring required.

And finally, most states require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. You can use the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO, # SM99251.

What it seems to me, is that your current point of installing the base plates are not lined up properly per your description. It's best to have the base plates #521227-3 parallel before any drilling for your tow bar to attach correctly. I…
