Question:
I have a 2019 Mazda CX-9 and am looking for a solution for transporting my snowblower which weighs nearly 290 lbs. I understand the CX-9 to have a towing limit of 3500 lbs, so following a 10 rule the tongue weight limit is 350 lbs, maybe less if the rack is deep. The Curt hitch receiver for the CX-9 #13284 is listed as having a tongue weight limit of 600lbs. Clearly an after market hitch receiver shouldnt allow me to exceed Mazdas 3500lb limit, but its unclear to me whether it lets me exceed the 350 lb one. Would I be able to use that receiver and this C18113 cargo carrier to transport my snowblower?

You are always limited to the lowest-rated component, whether that is your vehicle - in your case a 2019 Mazda CX-9 - or the equipment. So I took a look at the owner's manual of your '19 CX-9 and it says the max towing is 3,500 lbs like you mentioned, but didn't specify a max tongue weight, just that it needs to be 10% - 15% of the trailer weight. So your tongue weight can be more than 350 lbs on your '19 CX-9, and up to 525 lbs with the Curt hitch that fits:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13284
The # C13284 has a 600 lb tongue weight capacity so you won't be able to meet that, but you can definitely transport your snow blower, and can easily do so with the 25 lb Curt Cargo Carrier # C18113.
