Question:
when installing the 118420 Curt wiring harness on a 2012 Honda Civic do I need to purchase the Curt 55151 converter as well or does the 118420 harness not require the 55151 part to work the lights on the trailer. Thanks...

To install a trailer wiring harness on your 2012 Honda Civic, all you'll need is the Tekonsha # 118420. You won't need the # 55151 wiring kit, as the # 118420 draws all the power it needs through the vehicle's taillight circuits.
The Curt # C11391 hitch you'd looked at is a confirmed fit for your vehicle. You'll also need a ball mount like # 3593, a # PC2 hitch pin and # 19256 for a 1-7/8 or # 19258 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
I've linked to some installation videos you might find helpful.
