Do you need to install a soft start device to this unit to be able to run the AC while connected to smaller inverter generators?

The Furrion Chill, # FR86PR already has a soft start capacitor installed at time of build. However, to answer your question of operating an AC unit from an inverter type generator yes, it is more easily done with the SoftStartRV for RV AC Units, # SSR54FR, or similar type component in place. You are better assured of successful operation with one in place but it is not a given that one will be needed. Most situations something such as this will be needed but other factors influence the operation as well. Not all inverter generators are rated the same or have the same level of surge capability. Altitude will also have an effect.

My recommendation is that if you will be operating from a generator, and especially in an area where you will very much want the use the AC unit, have a unit with the soft start installed to ensure you can.
