Parts Needed To Install Redarc Tow-Pro Elite in 2016 Volkswagen Touareg With Factory Tow Package

Question:

Hello! I am trying to determine if I require any additional factory OEM or aftermarket parts to install the REDARC Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR on my 2016 VW Touareg TDI? I read on a few forums that say I may need some sort of wiring adapter that can only be sourced from the local dealerships. The VW dealerships nearest me are unsure as to whether it is even possible to install a brake controller in the first place. However, my vehicle came with a tow package and a 7-pin connector already installed from the showroom floor. Curious as to why they cannot help me now regarding the brake controller question. In order to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR you will need additional wiring from an authorized dealer. Luckily we already know the parts you will need. The #1J0-972-782 housing (one of these) and #000-979-228 wire/terminal assemblies (two of these) are what you require.

This will allow you to assemble a brake control harness. This harness will allow you to plug your brake controller into the factory brake control connector.

I have attached a review video as well as the tech bulletin which walks you through the process of assembling the harness for your reference.
