Can a OEM Mount Fixed Hitch 5TH Wheel Hitch Be Used On a Short Bed With the OEM Prep/Puck System?

Question:

Are the RAM OEM 5th wheel puck system different between the 6-3 and 8 foot boxes. The curt C16021 adapter indicates it only fits the 8 foot box. Will it work in the 6-3 box?

The factory prep/puck system is the same dimension in the beds of the short bed(6-1/2') and long bed(8') on the 2021 Ram 3500. The reason the Curt OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Legs # C16021 show as only fitting an 8' bed is that it does not have the ability to slide.

Short bed trucks are recommended to have a sliding 5th wheel hitch and would use the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # C16022 with a Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider # C16541.

You can use the Curt OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Legs # C16021 with a hitch head E16 # C16515 but a pivoting pin box like the Reese Sidewinder # RP34FR is needed. You'll also need wedge # C16991 when using the E16 head with the Reese Sidewinder. This helps to ensure that you have the additional turning clearance needed to be able to make full jackknife turns with your trailer in tight situations. If you need help finding a pivoting pin box please let me know what 5th wheel trailer you have and the pin box that is on it.
Keep in mind, current versions of the Curt A-series and Q-series are not compatible with Reese Sidwinder, which is why the E-series is recommended.
