Mounting on the cab... do i need to the headliner? all the blogs Im reading refer to a conopy or a shell, could you clarify what unit I need to mount in the cab of my truck

You could possibly install the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells # Y02-480B on the cab of your 2004 Ford F-150 but it's designed to be installed on a canopy or shell like what you've been reading. For something that was designed to fit your SuperCrew Cab you can still use a Rhino-Rack setup, it will just use clamps to secure to your roof. Here are the parts you need
