Can a Rear Hanger that is Wider than the Trailer Frame be Still be Used

Question:
My trailer is constructed of 1.5inch X 3inch C-channel steel. The bottom surface is only 1.5inch wide, but the hanger is wider than the frame surface. What are my options to get this welded securely to the frame, or is there a different hanger that will work?

Expert Reply:
The reason that the hanger is wider is most likely because double-eye springs are 1-3/4 inches wide. But as long as the hangers you are using are welded to the bottom of the frame as much as they possibly can be it will be fine. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder.
