Does Redarc Tow-Pro Elite For 2004 Dodge Ram With Factory 7-Way Need Added Fuse

Updated 05/21/2025 | Published 08/16/2021

Question:

The instructions for this brake controller call for a 25A fuse. I’m installing on a 2004 Dodge Ram using the Tekonsha 3020-s. The factory trailer brake harness notes that it is 15A maximum. Will this cause any issues? Will 15A be sufficient to run the brake controller? Thank you

That's a good question, but you will not need any added fuses and what you have with your 2004 Dodge Ram will be sufficient with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR and Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter # 3020-S.

I was able to look up some service manuals, and found that the fuse box in the engine compartment is properly fused for the electric brake provision in your truck.

I am about to purchase the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR for my 2004 Dodge RAM. I would prefer to use a wiring adaptor instead of splicing. What wiring adaptor do I need? (looking at the reply above, is that correct #3020-S)? Thank you,

@BrianL In order to have this be an easy plug in application, you will need to 2 pigtails to accomplish this since Redarc decided to discontinue their pigtail for the 2005 Ram. You will need the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness # 331-TPH-017 (plugs into the brake controller), and the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Dodge # 3020-P. This is the only possible way so you do not have to splice it in. I am shocked that Redarc got rid of the pigtail. So this will be a plug-plug-n-play application =)
