Trailer Hub & Spindle For 7,000 lb Axle With 12 Inch Electric Brakes

Published 08/18/2021

Question:

Thank you for the detailed information and links to the parts. This is a pretty simple flat bed trailer (not too heavy) that we are using to haul a RZR and motorcycles. It appears I "over-braked" with my brake purchase trying to match up to what I thought the axles were but I am wondering if it is still acceptable/possible to buy the appropriate 5200-6000lb 6x5.5 hub with the new spindles that you had suggested. I already have a set of wheels that are powder coated so I really don't want to change the bolt pattern. Is there a matching hub/spindle combo I can purchase with the understanding that they would be at a lower weight rating than the brakes that I installed? Thank you again

First, thanks for all that detailed information, it was very helpful. And we can get you parts for your trailer, though the issue is that there isn't an available hub for your spindle due to what you mentioned - the uncommon 501349 bearing, which is for older agricultural spindles. There also isn't a 7,000 lb-rated hub with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern to go with your 7k-rated Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-464 and # 23-465.

So what that means is you'll have to have your older spindle removed, and have a new one with common bearings welded on. I realize this isn't the news you were looking for, but there unfortunately just isn't a hub that fits your spindle. In order to get the right size hub that will work with your 7,000 lb brakes, what you will need is the following:

- #42 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Flange for 5.2K to 7K Trailer Axles # TRU37FR

- Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 7K lb E-Z Lube Axle # 42866UC3-EZ

The hub and drum includes the grease seal, bearings, and races so you don't have to purchase those separately, and the spindle comes with a 5-bolt brake flange which is correct for the brakes you have. The hub and drum does have an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern so if you need wheels, I have added a link below to our selection with that bolt pattern.

Happy to help, and I can definitely understand not wanting to switch out your wheels. So the good news is that yes, there is a hub you can use with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. It will also allow you to use your 12 inch brakes so you can keep those as well, though if your brakes are overrated, I should mention that you may feel quite a bit more stopping power than needed, so the braking could be a bit aggressive. That said, here is the hub you can use, and I'll link the spindle for you as well: - Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5.2K and 6K E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K - #42 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Flange for 5.2K to 7K Trailer Axles # TRU37FR
