How Much Would a Hitch Extender Reduce My Hitch's Weight Capacity on a 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500?
Question:
The Promaster rear doors will not open fully without extending the box 4 inches rear using a hitch extension. How much should the 300 pound capacity be reduced using an extension?

If you are wanting to add a hitch extender to your 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500, you will decrease the hitch tongue weight and tow weight capacities by 50%. With that being said, if you use a hitch extender like the Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 7" # HE06 (the shortest one we offer for 2-inch hitches), your weight will decrease to 150 pounds.
Depending on what cargo box you are wanting to transport on your vehicle as well as the weight of the cargo itself, you may have to buy a higher-rated hitch like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75882. With the Draw-Tite hitch, you will have a 375 tongue weight capacity if you use an extender.
